Bowling Glossary

Tap
The result of one or two pins left on an apparently good shot. Some bowlers say there is no such thing.

Three Hundred Game
The holy grail for your everyday bowler. The perfect game. Twelve strikes in a row.

Three Quarter Roller
The track of the ball is just to the side of the both the fingers and thumb at the beginning and flares from there.

Thumb Weight
Static weight of the ball on the thumb side half of the ball. Measured by weighing the finger side against the thumb using the center of the grip as the bisector. The weight makes the ball roll earlier a little bit.

Tight Lanes
Lanes where the bowler is forced to throw on a direct line due to the amount of oil used on the lanes.

Timing
The overall way things fit together in the approach (pushaway, swing, footwork, and slide) combined with the overall tempo of the approach.

Top Weight
Static weight of the top or grip side of the ball weighed against the opposite side of the ball.

Topping The Ball
Coming around the ball to far at release. Could be caused by hanging in the ball to long or letting the elbow fly out. Results are normally bad when this happens.

Track
The track of the ball is the part of the ball that comes into contact with the lane. Over time it becomes visible due to tiny scratches in the ball.

Triple
Three strikes in a row.

Triplicate
Three games in a row that are the same score.

Trip 4
When the 2 pin comes off the wall and hits the 4 pin over for a strike.

Trust
Something you need to hit the intended line. Not forcing the ball.

Turkey
Three strikes in a row.

Tweener
A player has a blend of power and accuracy. Between a straight player and power player.
